Learning isn’t just a classroom experience; it can easily happen on family vacations. You’re most likely heading to Florida for relaxing on the beach, but while you’re here, take the kids for a day of discovery at the South Florida Science Museum.
When you’re not out on the water in a West Palm Beach boat rental from Beach Water Sports, take some time to visit South Florida Science Museum with the family.
Exhibits in the South Florida Science Museum
One of the exhibits you and your family will find intriguing is the Egypt Gallery. Here you’ll see mummies and a variety of other authentic artifacts while you learn about the lives of Ancient Egyptians.
The Interactive Outdoor Science Trail is one of the museum’s most popular exhibits. Hands-on exhibits like fossil digs, whisper dishes, bubbleology and more are featured here. The States of Matter exhibit teaches museum visitors about the four states of matter; solid, liquid, gas and plasma. The exhibit also teaches principles of electricity through conversion machines and a Jacob’s Ladder.
The kids will get a kick out of the Tiger Shark Submarine as well. The submarine was constructed in 1963 and is a big part of West Palm Beach’s cultural history. The sub was donated to the museum in 1973 and has been on display for public viewing since.
Other great exhibits cover topics like tornadoes, bugs, radios, space and the human brain. You’ll also find the only aquarium in West Palm Beach at South Florida Science Museum. Seahorses, lion fish, lobsters and a plethora of marine life can be seen in this unique exhibit.
Take part in the marine animals’ feedings and even get the opportunity to pet sharks and stingrays. Pettings occur Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
