Renting a jet ski is one of the most popular activities for tourists here in Jupiter, Florida, and it is not hard to see why. Between the thrills you’ll feel and the beauty you’ll experience, you’ll be addicted to jet skis after your first ride! However, if it is your first time, you may be a little nervous and not know quite what to expect when riding a jet ski. No worries! At Beach Water Sports, we love to educate first-timers and watch them fall in love with the sport! Here are just a few tips to get you started.
Be Safe
Any time you’re heading out on the water, safety must be the first priority. You always need to wear a life vest, no matter how experienced of a swimmer you are. Accidents happen and it’s important to be prepared! After all, an unconscious person cannot swim. Additionally, make sure you understand the emergency shut-off clip. The clip attaches you to the engine so if you fall off, the engine will instantly shut down, keeping you and others safe.
Stay in Control
Once you get out on the water, keep your hands firmly on the handles to remain in control of the jet ski. Start out slow and avoid getting too close to other jet skis or boats. Also, when turning, try to maintain your balance and don’t turn too sharply or quickly. Keep in mind that as you speed up, the nose of the jet ski will rise out of the water – enjoy the ride!
Brace Yourself
Finally, as your skill level improves and you start to move faster through the waves, your jet ski will jump the waves. As you feel the jet ski lift into the air, lift yourself off the seat a few inches to minimize impact as you come back down. You’ll enjoy an exciting and comfortable ride!
